Q&A: what are some 150-250cc “vespa” style scooter prices? any advice?
Question: what are some 150-250cc “vespa” style scooter prices? any advice?
I’m just wondering how much a 150-250cc vespa style scooter might cost…
please dont tell me about motorcycles or those bicycle moped things….
Just scooters…
I’m a college student looking for reliable and cheap transportation to and from work and school… Most likely just back and forth about a mile or two, but if i get hired in the next town over there might be a possible 15-30 mile commute in store for me…
So i’m looking for something I might have to take on the highway..
Just a little scooter, cheap on gas… prices? suggestions? thanks

Cheap is not economical in the long run. I would go with a known reliable manufacturer with a local dealer that I could take problems to.
Something like a Piaggio Fly 150

I have a wife… Part of the reason I want a scooter opposed to a huge scary motorcycle… I want something she wont be afraid to ride on, and maybe one day will learn to ride!
Well since me and my wife both weigh 150 pounds… lol
I know what you mean about starting out with something that could kill you…
So I’m thinking maybe I could learn on a 150cc honda or suzuki… maybe yamaha?
And I’m looking at 2000-3000?
that isnt so bad.. especially if I could put it on a credit card or use some student loan money…. and it would definitely help…
We have a car… but I was thinking it would be much more logical to get a scooter rather than a second car for me and my wife.. that way i could do all my commuting with much cheaper gas prices…
I wasn’t necessarily thinking of taking her everywhere, so since we are within the weight limit, maybe taking her every once in awhile to get her used to riding wouldn’t be so bad (like i said, she is very scared of things with 2 wheels, her dad died in a very bad biking accident)
Do i have the jist of things? or am i still off??
150cc good to start with? or no?

Looking for a good “vespa” style moped “scooter” at or under 50cc?
Question: Looking for a good “vespa” style moped “scooter” at or under 50cc?
I live in California and believe if i can get a vespa style moped or scooter that was 50cc or a little under i could get away with driving it without a license or “registration”
They get killer gas mileage and would be perfect for a commute even 50 miles away from my home, job searching, college, etc.
i’m just really looking for something under 0 out the door, you know?
I don’t care if its honda or suzuki or namco.. lol 1-10k miles
Used or new, i’m a poor college student looking for cheap easy transportation ![]()
Thanks guys!
If went for a 150cc and got my m1 permit do you think that would work? and i live in a rural community so it is very easy to get 50 miles without seeing a highway
and 2 hours is a bit long, i was thinking more along the lines of 1 hour… but i didn’t think of running a little engine to death XP that was stupid.
oh, and i am 2hours away from Sacramento and san francisco…
but about 8 hours from los angeles D:
but that bike did look decent, i’m just looking for a vespa style scooter to get my wife to ride along sometimes, maybe even learn to operate it

It would be absolutely hopeless for a 50-mile commute, ‘cos it would take you an hour and 40 minutes – they can legally only travel at 30 mph. Furthermore, you would destroy it doing that kind of distance regularly; it would be run into the ground after a few thousand miles. Your attempt to save short-term will end up costing you more long-term. Wait and save for a 250, and get the right kind of license too.

In Texas, What do I need to own/operate a “Vespa” scooter?
Question: In Texas, What do I need to own/operate a “Vespa” scooter?
I hope to get a large engine, but I don’t know if getting one that is big enough to warrant me having to get a motorcycles license. What engine size requires this? Also, what is typical insurance? Lower, or higher than motor vehicle insurance? Also, do they last as long as cars, or less? Are tag/title costs lower than a car? or higher?

Your best bet would be to contact the Texas State Division of Motor Vehicles, As far as costs, anything motorized needs a license to drive. So you may as well get a MC License.Costs for Registration and Insurance are far much less than Autos. Happy Motoring (smile)
